LEO Pharma Director, Global Medical Affairs - Publications Lead in Madison, New Jersey

The ideal candidate has a life science background with previous global or country level pharma experience. We are looking for a driven strategic communicator, with a global mindset & excellent project management skills.

Minimum of bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree in biosciences or related fields is a plus.

Minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience as publications lead &/or publications medical writer or 7 years of publications / medical communication agency experience with the following competencies:

  • experience with pharma publication planning is required

  • knowledge of scientific publications regulations & best practices is required

  • experience with global clinical trials & international collaboration experience is preferred

  • excellent English written/oral communication skills, strong formal presentation & interpersonal skills

  • strong scientific analytical skills

  • excellent planning/organizational skills

  • experience in managing budgets

  • proficient in data management & global data protection regulations

  • basic knowledge of clinical development processes & appropriate application of biostatistics

  • ability to understand & interpret clinical data & strategic concepts

  • proficiency using standard software suites

  • medical communications vendor management experience

  • has a growth mindset in creating a learning environment & open to suggestions for improvement

  • drives publications innovation & proven track record of working successfully with cross-functional teams

  • ability to travel including major congresses 20% of the time per (non-COVID-19) year

Required Experience:

Manage the strategic planning and development of high-quality scientific/clinical manuscripts, abstracts, posters, & oral presentations for assigned products within established timelines in alignment with the scientific narrative.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of strategic & tactical publication plan for assigned therapeutic area in collaboration with GMA Product Team & other key functions

  • Lead the cross-functional publication team, including monthly, quarterly, & yearly publication update meetings as needed. Manage timelines of publication output.

  • Implement publication plan according to publication strategy & ensure efficient, compliant, timely & high-quality execution of publication deliverables

  • Lead author selection process: Liaise with key global functions & local medical affairs to ensure input for authors of clinical publications, & reach agreement on suggested authors in line with ICMJE & GPP criteria.

  • Liaise with internal & external authors, coordinate author review / approval & internal review / approval

  • Critically review & edit the work of internal/external medical writers

  • Abstract/manuscript submission with vendor support

  • Facilitate response to journal reviewer comments/requests

  • Publication tracking & announcements, in coordination with internal/external communications

  • Ensure adherence to all applicable SOPs, policies, processes, & compliance guidelines

  • Manage vendor budget & activities & oversee quality/timeline of vendor work

  • Collaborate with medical leads & biostatistians to ensure availability of necessary data
